I’ve long been fascinated by some of the amazing concepts product designers and R&D folks have been coming up with. One of my favouite peeps is Japanese industrial & graphic designer Mac Funamizu over at Petit Invention. However the types of surfaces, interactions and forms these guys are suggesting challenge traditional boundaries of graphics. What type of graphic will work on these new surfaces? How does light affect colours in these new environments?
And now, Microsoft have created some stunning pieces that show an enourmous amount of complexity. Will traditional information design teaching really be able to cope? Watch the video. It may just blow you away.
The way designers think about user interfaces in the digital realm will need to grow up a long way before we can begin to produce meaningful, beautiful and functional designs for this new, emerging reality. I can’t wait.
